Privacy Policy

The Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to our Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences Online Portal (powered by Compusense Inc.) No information will be acquired without the consent of the participant. Electronic consent will be obtained before the participant begins a survey.

Any personal information collected is used only for the purposes for which it was collected, it is not disclosed without authorization or used for personal gain.

This Privacy Policy explains our data processing practices and your options regarding the ways in which your personal data is used. If you have any requests concerning your personal information or any queries with regard to our processing contact us at advancedfoodsciences@deakin.edu.au.

Information collected

Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences collects the details provided by you during your registration process (5 minute survey) together with information we learn about you from your involvement in projects as a Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences database panellist.

We may collect additional information in connection with your participation in any testing offered by us and information you provide when giving us feedback. We also monitor traffic patterns and site use, which enables us to improve the service we provide.

"Personal information" is any information about an identifiable individual. During the completion of your initial 5 minute registration survey, Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences will obtain personal information such as your name, nationality, age, postcode, telephone number, allergies or intolerances etc.

Use of your information and your preferences

Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences will use your information to send you surveys by email and to determine your eligibility for certain projects. We will also use your contact details to communicate with you.

Once you have registered to use the Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences Online Portal, you can change your contact preferences on our welcome page or by contacting us (advancedfoodsciences@deakin.edu.au).

Participation in any research project is voluntary. If you do not wish to take part you are not obliged to. You are free to withdraw as a Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences database panellist at any time (without repercussions) by contacting us (advancedfoodsciences@deakin.edu.au). Your withdrawal will not affect any existing relationship with Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences or/and researchers. If your responses for any of projects have not already been analysed, any information obtained from you to date will not be used and will be destroyed.

Disclosures of your information

Any information obtained that can identify you will remain confidential. All information provided will not be made public in any form that would reveal participants identity; thus all participants will remain anonymous. All data collected from the projects you complete will be de-identified and stored on a password protected secure Deakin server for a period of five years after the final publication associated with the project. After the five-year period, the data it will be destroyed.

In any publication, information will be provided in such a way that you cannot be identified. Confidentiality will be maintained as only group means will be reported and no participants will be mentioned by name. Results from studies you participate in may be published in scientific journals and conference presentations.

Cookies

"Cookies" are small pieces of information sent by a web server to a web browser, which enables our online server to collect information from the browser. You can find out more about the way cookies work on http://www.cookiecentral.com. The Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences Online Portal uses cookies for a number of purposes, for instance to enable Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences to simplify the logging on process for registered users, to help ensure the security and authenticity of registered users and to enable traffic monitoring.

Whilst you do not need to allow your browser to accept cookies in order to browse much of our web site or to access many of our services, you must have cookies enabled if you wish to access any areas reserved for registered users.

Most browsers allow you to turn off the cookie function. If you want to know how to do this, please look at the help menu on your browser. As described above this will restrict the Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences Online Portal services you can use.

Access rights

Deakin Centre for Advanced Food Sciences will provide and update any individual's saved information upon request from the individual.
